Other brands of taco sauce are just not the same. I did get a giggle out of your Nutrition Information on the recipe.
It says that 2 cups is one serving. Haha it is the only taco sauce for me for life! Thanks lndsay. I will try your recipe soon.
I just found this recipe and it is fantastic! I like it thicker so I only added about 1 tbsp of water. I like taco sauce but I refuse to buy it because of the ingredients.
But now that I have this recipe, I will Never buy store bought taco sauce again! Thank you! So glad you like it too! My favorite is pouring taco sauce all over a taco salad.
Taco salads must have taco sauce. Would these proportions be like mild, Ned, or hot? This is definitely the mild Ortega version. Love the simplicity of this recipe.
I added a few drops of siracha sauce to increase the heat a little. Thats a fantastic idea Ken! This might be a stupid question, but what do you mean by tomato sauce?
Like the kind you use for pasta sauce? Thank you so much! Robin — this can definitely be tripled. Definitely am going to need to try it.
Thank you so much for letting us know! So I added a little more garlic powder and used some organic corn syrup I had.
We like some spices more than others. But this recipe works great in a pinch. I love Pancho's taco sauce and I hate buying it in the store because it is costly compared to the amount we like to use.
I'm going to try it tonight!! This has a good flavor and would taste fine on tacos I think. Since I was using this as an ingredient for another recipe Chicken Ole from this site I added a few squirts of ketchup to give it the tomato flavor I would normally expect.
However I did try the sauce without it and thought it was good without the ketchup too. Next time I may add a few dashes of chili powder and paprika if I want a more traditional "taco sauce" flavor.
This is a great recipe! I used it for guacamole too! More Reviews. Close Share options. Your daily values may be higher or lower depending on your calorie needs.
Excellent flavor, easy to alter so that it isn't too spicy. Much better than store-bought. Really good made it twice now. I usually only have tomato paste on hand so I add water to get the right consistency and just skip the water listed in the recipe.
Also I've used red wine vinegar and apple cider vinegar because it's all I had and still tastes great. This was really good!
The family love it, thanks for sharing! Why aren't there more reviews on this sauce? This stuff is amazing - far superior to anything in the store.
Love this! I was looking for an alternative to overly processed store bought options and this fit the bill. More Reviews. Close Share options. The rest of the seeds just never came up.
Hey Lyndsey! I subbed fresh tomato puree in place of water, and increased this recipe by 5 times. I ended up adding a bit more of each of the spices as well as a bit of sugar to suit my own tastes.
I also needed far less tomato paste. I poured in into hot sterilized jars, then water bathed it for 15 minutes. Thanks for letting us know the changes, Katie!
I really appreciate the comment! Hey Joy! Thanks for the advice! If you can it properly and clean, wipe rims with vinegar after filling the sterlized jars lids and rings, then you wont put botulism in it.
Theres like 12 ppl a yr that dies from bad home canning. You are taking more of a risk eatting store bought foods than by canning it properly at home.
As I was preparing tacos for dinner tonight I realized we were out of taco sauce. I found your blog and it completely saved my dinner!
